45 Car Burglaries, 6 Vehicles Stolen In North Haven Since July 1: Police
Police are urging residents to take the necessary precautions to avoid becoming the victim of a crime.

NORTH HAVEN, CT — North Haven Police are urging residents to lock their vehicles and to take the necessary precautions to avoid becoming a victim of a vehicle theft or burglary. Since July 1, North Haven Police have responded to 45 reports of vehicle burglaries and six stolen vehicle complaints, according to police.
Police said investigations revealed every vehicle that was stolen, or rummaged through, had unlocked doors. All 19 stolen vehicle reports taken in 2017 indicated the keys were left in the vehicle by the owners, according to police. (To sign up for North Haven breaking news alerts and more, click here.)
“North Haven Patrol Officers have been busy attempting to stop this uptick in larcenies,” police wrote in a press release. “Recently, officers have engaged several suspects in pursuits. The most recent pursuit occurred on July 26, 2017, when a midnight patrolman located a suspicious vehicle near Dixwell Avenue. The operator of the stolen vehicle fled at a high rate of speed. While negotiating a curve in Hamden, the operator lost control and crashed, but fled on foot prior to being taken into custody.

“While officers are very busy searching for suspects throughout town, we need residents to take steps to protect their belongings. We continue to ask residents to lock vehicle doors, remove the keys when the vehicles are parked, use lighting in the location vehicles are parked, and report suspicious activity to police.”
