Weather forecast:
1. North Haven Student Wins Whitey Piurek ‘No ‘I’ In Team’ Award (patch.com) — North Haven baseball fans can cheer on local standout Max Rothwell, who has been selected among 34 high school players to receive the John “Whitey” Piurek “There’s No ‘I’ in Team” Award. The Southern Connecticut Diamond Club will honor Rothwell and other unselfish team players at its June 14 banquet in Branford, with proceeds supporting the greater New Haven baseball community.
2. 1 Injured In Shooting In North Haven: Police (patch.com) — North Haven residents are being urged to stay alert after a 20-year-old man was shot while riding a moped on Whitney Avenue near the Hamden line, suffering injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening. Police say a heavy law enforcement presence will remain between Skiff Street and Millbrook Road as the active investigation continues and are asking anyone with information to contact North Haven police.
3. Fire Commissioner Peter Criscuolo, Jr. Secures Donation of 22 New Mattresses for North Haven Fire Department (northhavennews.com) — North Haven firefighters are getting 22 brand-new mattresses at the firehouse, thanks to Fire Commissioner Peter Criscuolo Jr., whose efforts secured the full donation. Local Democratic Town Committee leaders say the upgrade, the first in 11 years, will improve firefighters’ rest and readiness during long shifts while signaling strong community appreciation for their service.
4. Hamden residents get chance to weigh in on reworked YMCA apartment plan (ctpost.com) — Redevelopment of the former Hamden–North Haven YMCA into 99 one-bedroom apartments, including 30% affordable units, is back before Hamden’s Inland Wetlands Commission this week. The revised plan clusters housing in the existing building, reduces parking and pavement, and adds a walking trail and drainage changes aimed at easing neighbors’ concerns about flooding and environmental impacts near the North Haven border.
5. What we learned in first round of 2026 CIAC baseball tournaments: A defending champion goes down (nhregister.com) — North Haven baseball players made a big splash in the CIAC Class L first round, with standout hitting from Gavin Halovatch and Artie McCormack and six shutout innings on the mound from Quinn Bergin in a 14-3 win over Woodstock Academy. The broader tournament saw several major upsets, walk-offs, and dominant pitching performances across all four classes.
