Bonding Package Crucial to North Haven's Infrastructure, Freda Says

Urging residents to vote yes on a $14 million bonding package for a variety of municipal construction projects at this Wednesday's special town meeting, First Selectman Mike Freda said that the measures were necessary for improving the town's aging infrastructure. 

According to the North Haven Citizen, Freda warned that the repercussions for failing to pass the package would be significant:

“At this point here in North Haven, we have a level of infrastructure that’s in significant decline. Our goal in this government is to show you exactly what this town needs to enhance its image, functionality and public safety for the future...In my opinion, our infrastructure problems could adversely affect property values in town, and would just cost us more to fix down the road."

The bonding package covers three separate municipal projects, an appropriation of $9.2 million to pay for the renovation of three aging town firehouses, $4 million for the milling and paving of select town roadways, and $710,000 for the construction of a new Public Works garage. 

The $14 million would not be bonded right away, Freda noted, but rather over a period of three years as each project requires. 

What remains to be seen is if the town will place long-term infrastructural needs ahead of immediate concerns about expenditures. A referendum on the bonding package is currently slated for January 24.
