Eighteen Species Spotted in North Haven Bird Count
Residents identified eighteen species of birds in the 2012 Great Backyard Bird Count.

The results of the 2012 Great Backyard Bird Count are in, and while North Haven did not top the list in terms of species spotted, local ornithological enthusiasts still managed to identify eighteen different species in 143 separate sightings.
Among the rarer varieties seen in town was the Red-shouldered Hawk, of which only 89 were spotted statewide.
Also included in the count were Mourning Doves, Red-bellied Woodpeckers, and several species of Sparrow, among others.

In total, 148 species of birds were seen in CT during the Bird Count, with over 100,000 individual sightings.
