Man Attempted To Defraud Elderly Resident: North Haven Police
Police are crediting an employee with foiling a fraudulent transaction in which the suspect attempted to buy a $1.1K phone with a fake card.

NORTH HAVEN, CT — A New York man is accused of attempting to defraud an elderly North Haven resident by purchasing an iPhone worth more than $1,000 with a counterfeit credit card, according to police. North Haven Police credited an astute Verizon Wireless employee with foiling the fraudulent transaction attempt.
At about 5 p.m. on Dec. 27, a man attempted to purchase an iPhone X valued at $1,149 at Verizon Wireless. Police said the man produced a fake New Jersey license and a counterfeit credit card in someone else’s name. The employee found the information suspicious and contacted police.
Police said the investigation revealed that Guy Galloway, 23, of Bronx, New York, was attempting to use the fake ID and credit card to defraud a 71-year-old North Haven man.

Galloway was charged with second-degree forgery, fourth-degree larceny, second-degree identity theft, false statement and criminal impersonation. He was released after posting a $10,000 bond. Galloway is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on Jan. 11, 2018.
