Head-On Crash Driver High On PCP, Had Stolen Firearm: North Haven PD

Two people were sent to the hospital while the suspect fled the scene, according to police.

NORTH HAVEN, CT — A man who was high on PCP crashed head-on into another vehicle Sunday on the Hartford Turnpike in North Haven, police said. The suspect was also found to be in the possession of a stolen firearm, according to police.

At about 3 a.m., on July 2, Rahheem McDonald, 37, was traveling on Hartford Turnpike, crossed the center line and collided head-on into another vehicle occupied by two people, according to police. (To sign up for North Haven breaking news alerts and more, click here.)

Police said the victim’s vehicle rolled over and the occupants were hospitalized for treatment of their injuries. McDonald fled the scene on foot but reappeared as officers were searching for him and was quickly apprehended, according to police.

Police said McDonald acknowledged being under the influence of PCP and was also transported to the hospital. The investigation revealed he was in possession of a stolen firearm and under the influence which resulted in his arrest for numerous related charges, police said.

McDonald, of Waterbury, was charged with DUI, second-degree assault with a motor vehicle, evading responsibility, suspended license, criminal impersonation, interfering with police, theft of a firearm, weapon in a motor vehicle, criminal possession of a firearm, and possession of a firearm while intoxicated.
