Loaded Gun Magazine Found Outside School: North Haven Police

No school security threats have been identified, police said. The gun magazine was found on Monday night and the investigation is ongoing.

NORTH HAVEN, CT — North Haven Police are investigating a pair of incidents in which a loaded gun magazine was found outside of Clintonville Elementary School and a vandalism incident. Police say no school security threats have been identified and the investigation is ongoing.

The Clintonville Elementary School principal contacted police at about 7 p.m. on Sept. 19 after locating a loaded gun magazine on the ground outside the school. Officers and detectives immediately commenced an investigation and conducted multiple area searches, according to police. No firearms were found during the search. Police said that as the investigation progressed, it was determined that two early morning incidents on Sunday, Sept. 17, may be related. The first was a vandalism incident, in which a planter was thrown at a glass window of the school. The second incident was the early morning discovery of an unoccupied damaged vehicle parked on the lawn of an Old Forge Road home, according to police.

Police said a 31-year-old North Haven man was identified as a person of interest and interviewed later in the night. Police have accounted for the firearm that is believed to be associated with the found magazine.

“This man has no established connection with the school,” police wrote in a post on Facebook. “These incidents are ongoing criminal investigations so releasable details are limited at this time, but no school security threats have been identified.”
