Investigators learned Velez parked his vehicle one block from the victim’s home. As he entered the victim’s home, Velez used a flash light to illuminate his way.
Police said as Velez made his way to the 53-year-old victim’s bedroom, she was awoken and a struggle ensued. While the victim and Velez were struggling with one another, the victim’s 21-year-old son returned home from work earlier than expected.
