Man Charged With Armed Robbery In North Haven: Police

The suspect fled the scene in a stolen vehicle and was located inside of a New Haven residence where he was taken into custody, police said.

NORTH HAVEN, CT — A New Haven man has been charged in connection to an armed robbery in North Haven, according to police.

Police said that the suspect entered a State Street business while displaying a handgun on Jan. 31.

“The suspect demanded cash and attempted to defeat the security system prior to fleeing in a stolen motor vehicle,” North Haven Police said in a press release. “The suspect was tracked down by Detectives and located inside of a New Haven residence. Within hours the suspect was taken into custody after he attempted to flee from officers.”

Devin Rutledge, 24, of New Haven, was charged Tuesday in Superior Court with first-degree robbery and fifth-degree larceny. Rutledge, who police said has been in custody since his Jan. 31 apprehension, was held on a $300,000 bond.

Rutledge was also arrested by New Haven Police on Jan. 31 on several charges, including first-degree escape, first-degree violation of probation, interfering with police, larceny, reckless endangerment and gun charges, according to state judicial records.

He was assigned a court date of March 15 for both the New Haven and North Haven charges.
