Man Charged In Illegal Dumping Case In North Haven: Police

The man was arrested following an investigation into illegal dumping on several properties in North Haven, according to police.

NORTH HAVEN, CT — A Hamden man has been arrested in connection with an illegal dumping case in North Haven, according to police.

North Haven police received a complaint in November 2022 of illegal dumping on a State Street property. Officers found that several dozen used tires were dumped near a brush line during the overnight hours, according to police.

“Over the next few months other North Haven properties reported similar crimes,” police wrote in a post on Facebook. “Investigators learned several other municipalities across the state were experiencing the same problem of used tires being dumped on private and town-owned properties.”

Investigators identified a suspect and obtained an arrest warrant for 34-year-old Errol Walters of Hamden, police said.

Officers found Walters on March 6 outside his home in Hamden. He tried to run, but was apprehended with the assistance of the Hamden Police K-9 Unit, according to police.

Walters was charged with two counts of first-degree criminal mischief, two counts of second-degree criminal mischief, two counts of littering, and interfering with police. He was being held in lieu of a $15,000 bond with a court date of April 12, according to state judicial records.
