North Haven Native "So Wonderful" on American Idol

Sixteen-year-old Gabbi Carrubba of North Haven will progress to the next round of American Idol following a fantastic showing in Savannah, GA Wednesday night. 

Singing "Sunday Morning" by Maroon 5, Carrubba was praised by the judges for her vocal tone, which drew a comparison to soul legend Luther Vandross. 

From a write-up of Wednesday's episode on Newsday: 

"So wonderful," says Steven Tyler, as Randy Jackson praises her "nice tone..."

"Natural voice, so simple for her," says Jennifer Lopez., comparing her effortless voice to Luther Vandross.

Carrubba, a championship tap dancer, will proceed to the next stage in the competition in Hollywood, CA.
