North Haven Police Make Arrests in 'Good Samaritan' Carjacking Case

A man stopped to help a couple who said they had car trouble and ended up pistol whipped and carjacked.

North Haven Police have charged a Hartford man and a Manchester woman in connection to the “Good Samaritan” carjacking earlier this month in a Bank of America parking lot.

A North Haven man was driving through the parking lot of the Bank of America at 35 Washington Avenue at 6 p.m. on Sept. 8 when he was flagged down by a man and a woman.

The couple said they had car trouble and requested assistance, according to police.

While the victim was assisting the couple, an argument ensued and the man who claimed he had car trouble pulled out a handgun. He struck the victim in the head with the gun and the couple fled the scene in the victim’s vehicle, police said.

North Haven Detectives identified the pair as Seldale Moon, 23, of Hartford, and 24-year-old Rhakira McLendon, a Manchester resident.

Investigators obtained arrest warrants for the two and contacted the U.S. Marshall Service Task Force. Task Force Officers tracked the suspects to a hotel in the Greater Hartford Area where they were both taken into custody.

Moon and McLendon were transported to the North Haven Police Department where they were held until arraignment.

Moon was charged with first-degree robbery, second-degree larceny and assault with a firearm. He was held on a court-set $150,000 bond.

McLendon was charged with second-degree larceny, conspiracy and interfering with a police officer. She was held on a $50,000 court-set bond.
