NORTH HAVEN, CT — North Haven Police have an important message for residents regarding the ongoing trend of thefts from unlocked cars in town throughout the region and beyond. Read the full message, via a post on Facebook, from North Haven Police below:
North Haven Residents, we need partners. The NoHPD is out in force 24-hour a day every day. Recently, one hot topic is all the thefts from unlocked cars. This is a trend in almost every town in the region. Our best advice is to remove valuables, remove your keys, and lock your doors. Taking these three simple steps will stop 98% of the thefts from vehicles in North Haven.
We are not blaming the victims of these crimes. We are aggressively investigating and attempting to deter these crimes. We simply ask for your help. By taking a simple, common sense approach, you can help us help you.

You may see our officers in our business districts at night. Those districts need protection too. You will not notice the hundreds of miles our officers patrol each night in our neighborhoods (yes hundreds). That is because you are not out in the neighborhoods like we are.
Our officers take almost 30,000 complaints each year. When someone files a complaint, officers need to document, and write a report, or two, or many more for each complaint. Our police officers’ office is the police car you routinely see them in. That is where they make phone calls from, do research from, conduct investigations from, and write all of those reports from.

When you see a police vehicle parked in a parking lot on Washington Avenue, or Universal Drive, or any other high traffic street in town, trust they are conducting police business, and have public safety in mind.
