Looking for a new hot spot for your weekly happy hour? Want to shake up your weekend escapades? There is a new hot spot in North Haven and it's set to spice up Washington Avenue this May.
The Steel Horse Saloon, a full-stack bar with homemade, smoked barbecue on the menu, is the creation of Scott Sibbick. The long-time Wallingford resident has fully renovated the empty space at 630 Washington Ave. with his wife, Wendy, and family.

"I've always wanted to do this. It was a 'some day' type of thing and I guess 'some day' came," said Sibbick of the endeavor. "The space was empty for five years. I'd drive by all the time and it was still empty. I decided to make the call in December and by February we had the lease."
The saloon is designed to have a western and biker feel and will include two pool tables and two dart boards. The completely renovated space boasts theme motifs and brand new hardwood floors.

"They won't recognize it. There's vaulted ceilings, real wooden chairs, a fireplace, new crown moulding, everything's new," said Sibbick.
Sibbick says the they are still on the lookout for a chef as the menu will be homemade and free of frozen and prepackaged meals.
Along with leagues for pool and darts, Wednesday nights will be bike night and Thursday nights will feature karaoke.
The soft opening is scheduled for mid-May, while the official grand opening is set for June 23. In keeping with the saloon's theme, the grand opening will include a pig roast.
"I'm hoping it's going to give people a nice place to come down to where there's not really a lot of nice bars or restaurants for five miles in either direction," said Sibbick. "Based on the amount of people already inquiring, we’re going to fill that need."
