Student Sent Threatening Message: North Haven Police

Police say students received messages on social media that a student was going to "shoot up" the middle school.

NORTH HAVEN, CT — A student was removed from North Haven Middle School Thursday after police investigated a report that the student sent threatening messages via Snapchat and text messages the previous night. The school resource officer was notified by staff at the beginning of the school day that students reported receiving a message that a student was going to “shoot up” the middle school, according to police.

“These snap chat and mobile text message threats were made the previous evening, although were not reported to school staff until this morning,” police wrote in a post on Facebook. “Upon learning of this threat, SRO Depalma immediately located the student and moved them to a secure location away from students. North Haven High School SRO Maciog was also contacted and responded.

“No weapons were found on or near where the student was located. The student was removed from school and has been put in contact with professional resources. Parents / guardians of the student were checked for accessibility to weapons, with none found. We commend the North Haven Middle School staff and SRO’s for quickly acting on this information and locating the student immediately. Our number 1 priority during incidents such as this is the safety of students and staff. We cannot stress enough the importance of reporting suspicious activity immediately / as it is occurring. Thank you.”
