A road was closed for about an hour Monday morning as police responded to a report of a suicidal person in a home with a gun.

NORTH HAVEN, CT — A man was taken to an area hospital for psychiatric evaluation after police say he held a gun to his head and made suicidal remarks Monday morning in North Haven. The incident led to a partial road closure on Clintonville Road for about an hour on Monday. Police responded to a Clintonville Road home at about 9:20 a.m. on the report of a suicidal person in the home with a gun.
Police say the man was visiting his grandmother, who lives at the residence, and he was under the influence of what is believed to be prescribed antidepressants.
“He obtained a handgun from a bedroom that belongs to the homeowner,” police said in a post on Facebook. “The male held the gun to his head and made suicidal remarks. Officers set a perimeter, and crisis negotiators made contact with the male. After a short time, he exited the residence unarmed and surrendered himself without incident. The male was transported to an area hospital for a psychiatric evaluation.
