Two Arrested in Prescription Pill Scam

Two Milford women were arrested Wednesday after a plan to illegally obtain prescription pills from a Washington Avenue pharmacy went south. 

According to North Haven Police, Demitria Karageorge, 39, called the pharmacy on January 18 claiming to be an employee of a doctor's office, and put in large orders of Xanax and Ambien to be picked up by her accomplice, 42 year old Rose Ponzio-Perez.

The pharmacist learned of the fraud when she called the doctor's office provided by Karageorge to confirm the order.

Upon entering the pharmacy to pick up the order, both Karageorge and Ponzio-Perez were arrested by North Haven officers. 

A search back at the station turned up narcotics in both women's possession: 20 Oxycodone pills and 15 Vicodin pills were found on Karageorge, and 9 Oxycodone pill and one Vicodin pill on Ponzio-Perez.

Ponzio-Perez was charged with illegally obtaining narcotics, illegal possession of narcotics, and conspiracy. Karageorge was charged with the same, in addition to a count of criminal impersonation.
