Wanted Man Crashes Into Pole In Stolen Car: North Haven Police

Police say the man crashed a stolen Lexus into a utility pole, fled the scene on foot and was later located by officers in North Haven.

NORTH HAVEN, CT — Police say a suspected car thief crashed into a utility pole Wednesday afternoon in North Haven and fled the scene on foot before being located by officers. At about 3:15 p.m. on Feb. 7, a Kings Highway resident saw a 1997 tan Lexus collide with a utility pole. The lone occupant and operator of the vehicle exited the car and fled south on Kings Highway on foot, according to police.

Police said the operator, Marcus Pires, 46, of North Haven, was located near Highland Park Road. In addition to evading the scene of the accident, and several other motor vehicle violations, police learned the Lexus he was operating was a stolen vehicle.

Pires also had three active arrest warrants; two for violation of probation and one for failure to appear in court, according to police.

Pires was arrested on two counts of violation of probation and one count each of failure to appear, third-degree larceny, evading responsibility and several other motor vehicle charges. He was held on a $27,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Meriden Superior Court on Feb. 22.
