Water Company Impostor Charged With Home Burglary: North Haven PD

The suspect, who said he was a water company employee in a distraction burglary, was arrested after a lengthy investigation, police said.

NORTH HAVEN, CT — A New York man has been arrested in connection to a distraction burglary in which he posed as a water company employee and stole several items from a North Haven home last year, according to police. Nicky Anderson, 41, of Rocky Point in New York, was taken into custody on a warrant Thursday after police say forensic evidence linked him to the burglary.

The burglary occurred in February 2016 when Anderson knocked at the front door of a Quinnipiac Avenue home at about 4 p.m. and said he worked for the water company. He then asked to be escorted into the basement to check on a water-related issue, according to police.

Police said the victim escorted Anderson into the basement and stayed with him. After inspecting the washing machine and looking at pipes, Anderson told the victim there was no problem. Once Anderson left, the victim noticed missing items from her home. Police said a jewelry box and the victim’s purse had been rummaged through with several items missing.
