WEATHER UPDATE: Heavy Ice, Snow Hitting North Haven Today

The National Weather Service Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 6 p.m.

The National Weather Service’s Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 6 p.m. tonight and there is still a chance for snow until 7 p.m. with the heaviest snow expected at 1 p.m.

In a storm that already dumped several inches of snow on the area overnight, we are now firmly in the midst of a major ice storm that will continue throughout the whole day including tonight’s commute home from work if you ended up going.

The heavy snow has now mixed with sleet and freezing rain and will continue throughout the day accumulating an additional 3-5 inches and a total accumulation of 8-12 inches.

And after a prolonged period of ice the freezing precipitation will turn back to all snow later around 4 p.m. The National Weather Service cautions that the freezing rain and snow could be very heavy.

A total ice accumulation of up to half an inch is possible.
