Michael’s list of achievements is long. In addition to playing baritone saxophone for the Marching Bears and the Norwalk High jazz band, Michael is the senior class president and captain of the track team. He also is a member of the National Honors Society, and is involved with St. Jerome’s youth group.
For the last two summers Michael has worked as a lifeguard for the Wilton YMCA’s day camp, and this coming summer he plans to act as a camp counselor at Norwalk’s Personal Fulfillment Camp.
Michael may be young, but he is making a mark. As senior class president, he has spent the year helping to organize senior dances, make sure seniors pay their dues, and coordinate a raffle where they rented out a senior to another student for a day. This fundraiser earned more than $600, which allowed the senior class to lower the price of prom tickets and give away a few tickets to those who could not otherwise afford to attend this rite of passage.
Along with fellow Honors Society students Brendon Prescott and Gabby Nowack, Michael also helped put together the Shelter Shootout, a charity dodgeball tournament that raised more than $6,000 for the Open Door Shelter.
Michael’s dream is to become a journalist, and he hopes to attend Syracuse University's communications program
Key to Awesomeness:
Participating on Norwalk High School’s marching band requires a significant time commitment, but the band’s rigorous schedule has actually helped Michael more than it’s hindered him. He noted that “it’s tough, but if it wasn’t for all of those hours spent in marching band, I probably wouldn’t have been able to learn to manage the rest of my time.”
Add track, student government, academics and youth group to the mix, and this Whiz Kid certainly has a full plate.
“I don’t let a lot of the little things get to me," Michael said. "That allows me to stay focused in a lot of areas.”
