NORWALK, CT — The Norwalk Police Department has provided a list of safety tips for residents following a recent increase in vehicle thefts throughout the city.
In a news release, Police Lt. Ramon Tejada said many of these incidents have involved vehicles left unlocked or with key fobs left inside.
According to Tejada, the department has provided the following list of simple precautions for residents:
"At gas stations and other public locations," Tejada said in a news release, "vehicle thieves often look for opportunities when drivers are distracted or when vehicles are left unsecured."
According to Tejada, taking these simple preventive measures can significantly reduce the risk of theft.
"By working together and staying vigilant, we can help protect our property and keep our community safe," Tejada said. "While these safety practices may seem like common sense, recent incidents are an important reminder that even small oversights can create opportunities for criminals."
Anyone who notices suspicious activity in the city is asked to report it immediately to the Norwalk Police Department, according to Tejada.
