Today's riddle: I'm a rock group with 4 members; one member was assassinated. What am I? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Norwalk's Manresa Island project is being tweaked, but some still oppose the plan (ctpublic.org) — Plans to redevelop Norwalk's Manresa Island are being revised after residents raised concerns about traffic, noise, and quality of life, including removing hotels and shrinking an amphitheater. Neighbors, local advocates, and supporters remain sharply divided over whether the former power plant should become a multiuse hub or a lower-impact wildlife refuge, making this a key shoreline issue for Norwalk residents.
2. Norwalk celebrates completion of $36M project in school HVAC improvements (wtnh.com) — Norwalk officials have finished a $36 million overhaul of HVAC systems across six public schools, bringing new air conditioning, boilers, and controls to buildings including Brien McMahon High and several elementary schools. Backed by $21.5 million in state grants and a 60% reimbursement rate, the project aims to improve classroom comfort, air quality, and even the city's main emergency shelter while saving local taxpayers millions.
3. More than 4,000 abandoned lobster traps removed from Long Island Sound (wtnh.com) — Norwalk's Maritime Aquarium is helping lead a major cleanup of Long Island Sound, removing more than 4,000 abandoned lobster traps and 200,000 pounds of marine debris since 2022. For Norwalk residents who boat, fish, or care about local wildlife, the project reduces dangerous "ghost fishing," protects marine habitats, and uses data from each recovery trip to guide future conservation work in the Sound.
4. On the Road Again: The AEM Manufacturing Express Returns (aem.org) — The AEM Manufacturing Express kicked off its Northeast tour with a stop at Terex/Smart Equip in Norwalk, celebrating local workers who build specialized equipment used in communities nationwide. The traveling event then continued to other Connecticut and regional manufacturers, highlighting how investing in American manufacturing supports jobs, innovation, and environmental improvements well beyond each plant's walls.
