NORWALK, CT — The SoNo Baking Company & Café announced Wednesday plans to permanently close its doors in early November after more than 20 years in Norwalk.
In a message posted to Facebook, owner John Barricelli said Nov. 1 is the last day the bakery, located at 101 Water Street, will be open.
Barricelli acknowledged it was "hard to put into words what these past two decades have meant to" the SoNo Baking Company team, but noted the bakery had grown into something more meaningful.
"Over the years, we have had the privilege of being part of your daily routines, family traditions, and special occasions," the message reads. "From morning coffees and favorite pastries to casual lunches and celebrations, you welcomed us into your lives, and for that, we are truly grateful."
Barricelli thanked the bakery's loyal customers for their "unwavering support, kindness, and encouragement," as well as its dedicated employees for all their hard work.
"Although closing this chapter is bittersweet, we do so with immense gratitude and pride in what we have built together," the message reads. "The memories, friendships, and connections we have made will stay with us long after our doors close."
The bakery offers a wide menu of baked goods, including artisanal breads, custom cakes, pies, cookies and other pastries, as well as coffee, tea and seasonal specials, according to the bakery's website.
It also serves breakfast sandwiches and plates all day, in addition to lunch sandwiches, salads and soups.
The bakery's Darien location closed earlier this year.
A third generation baker who has cooked at a number of notable restaurants, Barricelli hosted the PBS show "Everyday Baking from Everyday Food" and co-hosted "Everyday Food," according to the channel.
He has also authored two cookbooks, according to the bakery's website.
