Norwalk 2.0, a community and economic development company, is hosting a community meeting on Monday March 5, 2012 at 6 PM for the residents, businesses and downtown enthusiasts to discuss issues about Norwalk Center. The meeting will be held at , 57 Main St. on the second floor.
Following a year of online discussion at the Norwalk Center Google Groups list, the meeting is being held to advance networking and foster collaboration.
In the spring of 2011, Norwalk 2.0 was asked to set up an online discussion list to facilitate communication amongst both businesses and residents.
The list, located at groups.google.com/group/norwalk-center offers anyone a fresh and easy way to communicate about new store openings, promotions, quality of life issues, crime concerns and community building activities..
Founder Jackie Lightfield describes the Norwalk 2.0 technology initiatives as “mobile extensible, allowing any organization to reach people where they are.”
Founder Maribeth Becker said, “this is just the first wave of our community tools that empower people to communicate in many ways.”
Norwalk 2.0 is part of a growing national movement that leverages technology to increase social engagement in government and communities. Gov 2.0, Code for America and Startup America all focus on delivering tech tools to organizations and local governments to enable better and more efficient ways of working.
Becker and Lightfield founded Norwalk 2.0 in the summer of 2010 to address needs in Norwalk after extensive work as civic leaders.
Norwalk 2.0’s mission is to engage residents, businesses and community organizations to work together and create an authentic, creative, economically diverse and sustainable future.
