From March 5 through March 27, Fairfield-based artist Susan Newbold and Norwalk-based artist Megan Collins will have their work on display at ArtPlace Gallery, located at 11 Unquowa Road in downtown Fairfield.
There will be an opening reception for the artists at the gallery on Saturday, March 5, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m., featuring live music. In addition, there will be an opportunity to meet Newbold and Collins and ask them questions as they discuss their work during “Eat, Walk, Talk,” a lunch gathering at ArtPlace Gallery on Saturday, March 12 at noon. Both the reception and “Eat, Walk, Talk” are free of charge and open to the public.
Newbold is an award-winning mixed-media artist who has exhibited, taught and studied extensively within the United States and abroad. Newbold’s work has been featured in many exhibitions and juried art shows, including the Maryland Institute and College of Art Gallery in Rochefort, France, Silvermine Guild Arts Center in New Canaan and Studio 53 in Boothbay Harbor, ME. For her collection on display at ArtPlace gallery, titled “Fragments,” Newbold was inspired by fragments of patterns in nature and architecture.
“Oftentimes, fragments of an object reveal its inner structure and what holds it together to make it distinct,” said Newbold. “Examining parts of the whole reveals unique lines, color and composition, and can leave one in awe. I hope that my work inspires guests of the gallery to take a closer look at their surroundings – daily life is richer for it.”

For the last 18 years, Collins has taught art at several schools, including Hurlbutt Elementary and Weston Intermediate Schools in Weston, Whitby School in Greenwich, Holy Family School in Fairfield, and Taipei American School in Taiwan. She received her BA from the University of Hartford and MS in Art Education from Southern Connecticut State University.
Collins has shown internationally and has been featured in several exhibitions and juried art shows at such galleries as the Flinn Gallery in Greenwich, Katonah Museum of Art in Katonah, NY, and Westport Arts Center. In 2010, she had a solo exhibition at New Canaan library’s H. Pelham Curtis Gallery. For her collection on display at ArtPlace Gallery, titled “Deer Crossings,” Collins was inspired by the beautiful, and often problematic, deer in Connecticut.
"The work I will have on display at ArtPlace Gallery is a reflection of the complicated relationship I have with whitetail deer, who oftentimes eat all my attempts to grow a garden” said Collins. “However, I absolutely love the magnificence of deer, and the fact that they have survived in Connecticut, generation upon generation, increases my respect for them.”
