Delays, Closures Announced In Norwalk After Snowstorm

City officials said over 6 inches of snow had fallen across Norwalk as of 8 a.m. Friday morning.

NORWALK, CT — The opening of city buildings and offices in Norwalk has been further delayed following Friday morning's snowstorm, city officials said.

In a statement Friday morning, city spokesperson Josh Morgan said the storm slowed overnight which bumped up accumulation totals in Norwalk. He also noted that while accumulation can vary, over 6 inches of snow had fallen across the city as of 8 a.m.

According to Morgan, city garbage and recycling collection is now canceled Friday and routes for the day will be collected Saturday.

The Norwalk Transfer Station is open for regular hours (7:30 a.m. – 3 p.m.) Friday, however the Norwalk Yard Waste is closed and will reopen for regular hours (7:30 a.m. – 2 p.m.) Saturday, Morgan said.

Christmas tree collection Friday is postponed, however collections will continue throughout the week of Jan. 10, Morgan said.

Calf Pasture Beach, Cranbury Park and Veteran's Park will remain closed Friday until the facilities are plowed and cleared. According to Morgan, they will likely reopen sometime Friday afternoon.

Coronavirus testing at Veteran's Park is closed Friday and will reopen for regular hours (9 a.m. – 1 p.m.) Saturday. Those seeking testing should not arrive to the park any earlier than 8 a.m., and further information can be found at norwalkct.org/testing, Morgan said.

Morgan also noted many community partner COVID-19 vaccine clinics are closed Friday, the latest information on which can be found at norwalkct.org/vaccine.
