Delivery Driver Accused Of $1M Theft From Stew Leonard's: PD
The suspect is accused of stealing $1 million in payroll checks, according to Norwalk police.
NORWALK, CT — Payroll checks totaling $1 million were reported stolen from the Stew Leonard's grocery store in Norwalk in the fall, and police made an arrest in the case earlier this month.
According to Norwalk police, the checks were reported stolen from a mail receptacle Nov. 6 after they were mailed from the corporate office.
"There was a $50,000 loss when some of the checks were cashed," police Lt. Jared Zwickler told Patch.

Detectives discovered those checks had been cashed at various locations in the tri-state area. They found the suspect on surveillance video wearing a FedEx jacket. The suspect was identified as Yariel Marte Matos, a 24-year-old Yonkers, New York, resident who worked for Evergreen Ground Services, a FedEx subcontractor.
Norwalk police obtained a warrant for Matos' arrest and he surrendered to authorities June 4.

He was charged with eight counts of second-degree larceny, conspiracy to commit second-degree larceny and third-degree forgery.
Matos is currently free without bond and was scheduled to appear in court Tuesday.
