Lakeview Cemetery

VFW Seeks Volunteers and Donations for Flag Placing at Lakeview Cemetery on Saturday, May 16 at 8am
Volunteers are wanted to assist VFW Post 653 in New Canaan to place flags at the graves of fallen soldiers in their honor for Memorial Day. All are welcome to participate on Saturday, May 16, from 8am to 10am at the Lakeview Cemetery on Main Street in New Canaan. We will meet at the lower Veterans’ section (Section M), just to the right after you enter from Main Street and cross the bridge. Refreshments will be served. The VFW removes the flags it places, so that these flags may be reused next year. Removing the flags, is following proper flag etiquette and protocol established at Arlington Cemetery, and of course, has the added benefit of reusing flags, thereby reducing waste and conserving funds. Removing flags is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, June 6 at 8am, but unlike flag placement, is weather dependent.
Memorial poppies will be available for any donation made to New Canaan VFW Post 653 the Saturday and Sunday of May 16 and 17 and of Memorial Day weekend at several New Canaan businesses (ACME, Dunkin Donuts, Walter Stewart’s Market and Zumbachs). Post 653 uses fundraising proceeds to pay for flags and wreaths that are laid on Memorial Day and during the Christmas season on veterans’ graves at Lakeview and other cemeteries in New Canaan.
If you know of a veteran interred in New Canaan who has not been remembered and honored with a flag and wreath, please contact Mike McGlinn, Commander VFW Post 653 know at 203 962 1302.

"Rendezvous with Rachel Revere" is an Immersive Living History experience. History At Play, LLC Founder and Artistic Director, Judith Kalaora, is Rachel Revere— wife to Paul Revere and Founding Mother of an American Republic. This engaging program is approximately 60 minutes, includes performance, a real-time Q&amp;A with audience members and an educational lecture. Suitable for ages 12+. "Rendezvous with Rachel Revere" ushers the audience back to May 2, 1775. Rachel Revere has heard from her beloved husband Paul only once since his legendary midnight ride on the 18th of April. Still isolated from one another due to the Siege of Boston, Rachel desperately creates a plan which shall safely take her children: six step-children from Paul’s first marriage and a newborn baby of their own, from the reach of the British Regular Army besieging Boston. In this program, the audience assists Rachel, as she carefully considers the dangers and demands of each plan. 
Find out if Rachel is successful in her perilous mission to unite her family, amidst the wake of an American Revolution.
This event is part of the <a href="https://norwalkhistoricalsociety.org/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Norwalk Historical Society</a>’s programming commemorating the 250th Anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The Norwalk Historical Society is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and an America 250|CT Affiliate.
