New Development Proposed for 272-280 Main Avenue in Norwalk

Renowned local architect Bruce Beinfield is designing the project, which could house a big-box retailer.

NORWALK, CT — Renowned Norwalk architect Bruce Beinfield is designing a proposed retail development for 272-280 Main Ave. in the city, the same site where builders wanted to place a BJ's Warehouse a few years ago.

The Hour reports that the new proposal, called "The Village," is scaled down from the previous one, and will have an 85,000-square-foot big-box retail space and an additional two-story building of nearly 12,000 square feet.

Area residents opposed the BJ's application a few years ago, in part over concerns that the project would adversely impact traffic in surrounding neighborhoods. Those concerns may persist, but representatives of the developers have met with neighborhood groups in an effort to assuage those sentiments.
