News 12 Issues Statement on Production Studio Move from Norwalk to New Jersey: Update

Altice, which bought Cablevision and Optimum this year, is said to be moving the Norwalk-based production studio to the Garden State.

NORWALK, CT — News 12, a staple of Norwalk and the lower Fairfield County news scene for decades, reportedly is moving its studio production from the current Cross Street location to New Jersey, writes the Danbury News-Times.

Altice USA, new owners of the former Cablevision news operation, is said to be preparing layoffs at the news division but will leave some reporters and camera crews in Norwalk to cover the area, according to the publication. The move is expected to be completed by the spring of 2017, and the exact number of current news staff in Norwalk, and how many will remain in the city, was not disclosed.

On Friday afternoon, a spokesperson for News 12 issued the following statement to Patch about the move:

"News 12 Networks has announced upcoming changes to its studio operations that will enable us to more effectively and consistently deliver high-quality hyper local news for viewers in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. For more than 30 years, we have been at the heart of our local communities and we remain committed to delivering news via our seven local channels and covering everything from local polities and education to the small businesses and leaders who are making a positive impact on the local community."

Among those who are expected to be laid off include longtime anchor and news director Tom Appleby. Over the summer, Altice announced it was closing Cablevision offices in Shelton and Stratford, which would result in about 600 people losing their jobs.
