Norwalk Announces Spring 2023 Curbside Yard Waste Collection Schedule

The schedule is determined by residents' garbage collection days, according to city officials.

NORWALK, CT — Norwalk has announced the spring 2023 curbside yard waste collection schedule for residents who receive both garbage and recycling collection from the city.

Based on the schedule, residents who receive both garbage and recycling collection will have two opportunities for curbside yard waste collection this spring, according to a news release provided by the city.

The first yard waste collection for 2023 will take place April 3. This collection is for residents who routinely get their garbage collection on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

A second collection on April 10 is for residents who routinely have their garbage collected Thursdays and Fridays. Yard waste collection includes items such as leaves, brush, sticks, etc., city officials said.

The schedule below is determined by residents' garbage collection day:

If your garbage collection days are routinely on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, please have your yard waste on the curb by 6 a.m. on:

  • Monday, April 3
  • Monday, May 1

If your garbage collection days are routinely on Thursday and Friday, please have your yard waste on the curb by 6 a.m. on:

  • Monday, April 10
  • Monday, May 8

Yard waste collection guidelines are as follows:

  • Yard waste must be curbside by 6 a.m. on the Monday of your collection week, listed above.
  • Leaves will only be collected in brown leaf bags, garbage cans with no lids or open top cardboard boxes.
  • Any brush must be less than 4 feet long and 6 inches or less in diameter. It must be tied up in bundles, no heavier than 50 pounds, or in garbage cans with no lids.
  • Plastic or garbage bags of debris, loose piles of brush and leaves, rocks, soil and sand will not be collected.
  • There is a 25-pound weight limit for leaf bags and a 50-pound weight limit for cans. Please do not overload bags or cans.
  • Logs and stumps will not be collected. They can be brought to the yard waste site with the proper permits.
  • Yard waste that does not meet the criteria for collection, such as logs and stumps, can be brought to the Yard Waste Site.
  • If you believe your curbside yard waste collection was missed, don't hesitate to get in touch with the city's Customer Service Center at (203) 854-3200 or customerservice@norwalkct.gov the Monday after your collection week.

The Yard Waste Site is located at 15 South Smith Street and open six days a week from April 1 to Dec. 16. Hours of operations are Monday-Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. The scale closes for lunch between 12 p.m. and 12:30 p.m.
