Norwalk Board Of Education Decides On High School Start Times

Several area school districts recently have discussed or changed start times.

NORWALK, CT — Like other Fairfield County communities, Norwalk has decided to push back start times for its public school high school students to 8:30 a.m. beginning with the 2020-21 school year, The Hour reports.

The new plan has been studied in the city for some time, but it still faced a little opposition Tuesday night when the Board of Education voted in favor of the change. In addition to costing the district more money, the move will likely impact traffic in the city and after-school sports and other activities.

In addition to the later start time at Norwalk High and Brien McMahon, the dismissal time also will be pushed back to 3:15 p.m.

While several districts have changed start times over the past couple of years, others like New Canaan, are still discussing the matter.

And up in Ridgefield, later start times were decided and then rescinded the decision due to logistical hurdles.
