NORWALK, CT — Ellen Wink, a city official who was charged with murder Thursday following the shooting death of 54-year-old Norwalk resident Kurt Lametta, has been fired as the city's Republican deputy registrar, according to a Norwalk Republican Town Committee official.

On Thursday, Police Lt. Terrence Blake said officers arrested Wink, a 61-year-old Nelson Avenue resident, around 1 p.m. following an incident in which a man, later identified as Lametta, was found inside a a separate home on Nelson Avenue "suffering from gunshot wounds."

Officers were sent to the area in response to a reported disturbance involving Wink and Lametta, Blake said. Lametta was declared dead after being evaluated by Norwalk Hospital Emergency Medical Service crews, Blake said.

Officers immediately detained Wink at the home and, after further investigation, arrested her, Blake said. She was charged with murder and held on a $1 million bond.

Lametta was a tenant at one of Wink's properties, and they had an ongoing dispute that began in the fall of 2020 over the status of rent payments, the Norwalk Hour reported citing police reports.

In September 2021, Wink was charged after being accused of locking Lametta out of the residence and throwing away some of his personal items, the Hour reports. Wink had wanted to sell the rental property, according to the police report as cited by the Hour.

According to the state's judicial website, Wink has not been released from custody as of Saturday.

In addition to her deputy registrar role, Wink previously served as city clerk from 2009 to 2011.

A request for comment from city officials Monday afternoon was not immediately returned.
