Norwalk Coronavirus Update: 1,535 Cases; Deaths At 71

Statewide, new coronavirus hospitalizations have dropped​.

NORWALK, CT — One more Norwalk resident died of complications from the new coronavirus (COVID-19), bringing the number of deaths to 71 as of Tuesday, according to Mayor Harry Rilling.

"I am sad to report that we have lost another Norwalk resident to COVID-19," Rilling said. "This is not news I want to share, but feel it important to let our community know the impact of this virus, and to remind this person’s loved ones that our community remembers them and is praying for them."

There were 40 new confirmed coronavirus cases in the city, bringing the total to 1,535 as of Tuesday. Statewide, new hospitalizations have dropped, but deaths continue to rise, as does the number of cases. Those numbers were 2,089 and 26,315, respectively. Rilling also announced:

  • Mayor Rilling was joined by Health Director Deanna D’Amore and Chief of Community Services Lamond Daniels for a Zoom Town Hall last night. The video can be watched on the City’s YouTube channel. The Mayor’s next Zoom Town Hall will be on Monday, May 4.
  • The boat launch at Veteran’s Park will be open this Saturday, May 2 and Sunday, May 3, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. for Norwalk residents only who rent marina slips and wish to put their boat in the water. Appointments must be made by 5 p.m. on Friday, May 1. Please email vetsmarina@norwalkct.org for more information and to make an appointment.
  • The boat ramps will be opened to Norwalk residents only for single day launches on weekends from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. starting on Saturday, May 9. A daily launcher sticker will be required.
  • Mayor Rilling will join State Senate Majority Leader Bob Duff for a Facebook Live Coronavirus Town Hall on Wednesday, April 29, at 7 p.m. More information can be found here.
  • The City of Norwalk has partnered with ABCD, Inc. and local food organizations and pantries to launch a COVID-19 Food Delivery Program for Norwalk residents. This program is free to individuals or families who are isolated or quarantined due to coronavirus and unable to leave their homes. This service is available Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Those who need a delivery are asked to call (475) 489-9119. More information can be found here.

"This pandemic has created a strain on virtually every person and every sector of the community," Rilling said. "Many are using services, like food pantries, for the very first time. I am grateful for the partnership with ABCD that will help get more food to more people in Norwalk. Please, if you need assistance, call today."
