Observed in April each year, National Donate Life Month helps raise awareness about donation, encourages Americans to register as organ, eye and tissue donors and to honor those who have saved lives through the gift of donation, according to the city.
"As we recognize Donate Life Month this April, we celebrate the generosity of communities across New England and here in Connecticut to give the gift of life," Glazier said in a news release. "Every day, individuals and their families say 'yes' to organ and tissue donation, offering hope, healing and a second chance at life to those in need. More lives are being saved through transplantation thanks to the compassion of the donating public, strong hospital partnerships and community collaborations. New England Donor Services works around the clock to deliver hope through donation in this region and is successful in doing so - the number of organ donors increased by 80 percent since 2020 here in the region. Our team is deeply inspired to turn loss into life-saving legacy by both the courage of the donor and their families and by the resilience of those awaiting transplantation."

The public is invited to join Smyth and Glazier for the flag raising event.
"With 100,000 people on the national organ transplant waiting list, it is so important that those who can, choose to be donors," Smyth said in a news release. "I am grateful for organizations like the New England Donor Services and the work they do to help connect donors and those who are waiting for a second chance at life. I'm glad we are here today to bring awareness to this cause."
