Norwalk Lowers Flags To Half-Staff Following Fatal Bristol Shooting

NORWALK, CT — The city lowered its flags to half-staff Thursday morning in honor of two Bristol police officers who were shot and killed in the line of duty late Wednesday night.

Gov. Ned Lamont announced Thursday he is directing U.S. and state flags in Connecticut lowered to half-staff in honor of the two officers, according to a news release provided by the city.

In a statement, Mayor Harry Rilling offered his thoughts and prayers to the two police officers who lost their lives, as well as a third police officer who was injured Wednesday night.

"I am keeping their families in my thoughts during this heartbreaking time," Rilling said in a statement. "This is a sad day for [Connecticut] and Norwalk stands with the Bristol Police Department during this challenging time. Following the governor's order to direct Connecticut flags to be lowered to half-staff in honor of the two officers who were killed in the line of duty, all Norwalk flags in city buildings should be lowered immediately. Norwalk will remember these officers as heroes who risked their lives to protect their community while responding to a domestic violence emergency."

The Norwalk Police Department posted about the shooting on Facebook Thursday morning.

"Two officers were killed overnight in Bristol and a third suffered serious injuries. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families, friends and all the members of the of the Bristol Police Department," the NPD posted.
