Wethersfield DMV Office Threatened, Norwalk Man Charged

During a telephone conversation, a man threatened to travel to the DMV and commit an act of violence, police said.

NORWALK/WETHERSFIELD, CT — A Norwalk man was charged in connection with threatening phone calls to the Wethersfield state Department of Motor Vehicles office on Monday.

According to Connecticut State Police Tuesday, Jakari Burks, 26, of Glenwood Avenue, Norwalk, was charged with second-degree breach of peace and second-degree threatening.

He was issued a $5,000 bond and will appear in New Britain Superior Court Oct. 17.

State police said at approximately 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 3, Troop H troopers were dispatched to 60 State St., Wethersfield, to the state DMV office to meet with a state employee who had received a threat of violence via telephone by a male party.

This, police said, caused the employee to fear for their safety and that of their fellow employees.

The employee advised investigating troopers an individual identified as Burks had contacted the DMV in excess of 20 times via telephone and had sent roughly 75 emails to a department email inbox, according to police.

During one of the telephone conversations, a man threatened to travel to the employee’s location and commit an act of violence against employees in the building, police said.

According to state police, Burks walked into the lobby of the Troop G barracks in Bridgeport at about 6:15 p.m. as a result of the probe.

He was then taken into custody as part of the investigation, which was being conducted by Troop H in Hartford, police said.
