The incident occurred Saturday afternoon near Greens Ledge Lighthouse.

NORWALK, CT — Norwalk Marine Police rescued a distressed boater Saturday afternoon in the waters near Greens Ledge Lighthouse, according to officials.
The boater, whose identity was not released, suffered a head injury when his sailboat's boom struck him in the head and knocked him into the water. He was treated at Norwalk Hospital for his injury; his current condition was not immediately available.
Norwalk Police became involved at about 2 p.m. when Marine Unit Sergeant Peter LaPak and Marine Unit Officer Richard Delallo spotted the man in the water - in "obvious distress" - and his boat traveling in circles.

"As the officers approached, they threw the male a life ring however, he was unable to grab it," police wrote in a statement. "The male’s head then began going under the water. Officer Delallo entered the water, securing the now exhausted male and assisting him back to the NPD Marine Unit. A passerby also entered the water and assisted Officer Delallo and Sergeant LaPak with getting the male into the boat. The male was transferred to the Norwalk Fire Boat, which transported him to Cove Marina and the waiting Norwalk Hospital Ambulance."
Sgt. LaPak and Off. Delallo were able to secure the sailboat, which had a passenger on board, who did not sustain any injuries.
