Norwalk Murder Victim Laid to Rest

Melissa Wilkinson was shot to death by her father, who then turned the gun on himself, police said.

NORWALK, CT — A woman who was killed in a suspected murder-suicide by her father was laid to rest Friday morning.

Funeral services for Melissa Wilkinson, 33, were held at St. Catherine of Siena Church in Trumbull.

Melissa Lynn Wilkinson, age 33, of Norwalk, passed away on Sunday April 30, 2017. Born on July 12, 1983 in New Haven, she was a beloved daughter of Karen Lee Faust Wilkinson and Mark Anthony Wilkinson(deceased). A graduate of Norwalk High School, she attended Norwalk Community College. A very loving and caring person; Melissa was a popular server at many restaurants in South Norwalk, recently having been employed by the Match and Strada 18. She was also employed by Saks Fifth Avenue, Greenwich. She loved being out in the world hiking, boating, walking her dog Lily, or attending festivals with her many friends. Her free spirit and penchant for adventure were boundless and infectious to all who knew her.

In addition to her cherished mother, Karen, survivors include four siblings: Dr. Lee Ann Wilkinson (and partner Claire), Robert Wilkinson, Angelique Marie Foley and Mark Wilkinson Jr; maternal grandparents, Robert and Ethel Guerin Faust; beloved stepfather, Kevin Foley; as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins and many dear friends, including David Disston and his family who included her as one of their own. She was predeceased by her paternal grandparents, Robert and Antoinette Wilkinson.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, May 12, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. directly in St. Catherine of Siena Church, 200 Shelton Rd., Trumbull. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Thursday from 4-8 pm. at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either the Open Door Shelter in Norwalk ( http://www.opendoorshelter.org... ) or the National Addiction Services Group Shatterproof ( https://www.shatterproof.org/ ).
