Norwalk Physician Fined by State for Over-Prescribing Opioids to Prison Inmate

The state Medical Examining Board also permanently limited the doctor's ability to prescribe painkillers.

Norwalk, CT - Dr. Martin Perlin, a Norwalk physician, was fined $5,000 and had his ability to prescribe painkillers permanently limited by the state Medical Examining Board for over-prescribing opioids.

Connecticut Health I-Team's Kate Farrish reports that Perlin prescribed high doses of the drugs to several patients, including a prison inmate, without following proper safeguards.

He was prescribing the opioids to these patients from 2013 to 2015, and while state regulators said he denied the allegations, he did not fight the punishment.

Farrish writes that Perlin's opioid limitations only allow him to prescribe for a maximum of 15 days and only to terminally ill patients or those in acute pain.
