Norwalk Teacher Accused Of Dragging Student Across Classroom: Police

Police said a middle school teacher accused of causing a student to fall and dragging him across a classroom was recently arrested.

NORWALK, CT — A Norwalk middle school teacher accused of causing a student to fall and dragging him across a classroom was arrested last month, according to police.

In a news release Friday, Police Sgt. Sofia Gulino said West Rocks Middle School teacher York Mario, 61, of Orange, was arrested June 16 on charges of second-degree reckless endangerment and risk of injury.

According to Gulino, a West Rocks student told police in November he was mistreated by Mario, prompting a thorough investigation by the police department's Special Victims Unit and the Department of Children and Families.

The investigation revealed on Oct. 29, Mario grabbed a student who was seated in a chair by his shoulder and pulled him, causing the student to fall to the ground, Gulino said.

Mario then dragged the student across the room while the student clung to another desk, according to Gulino. Part of the incident was captured on video by another student.
