Obituary: Albert Paul Gilbertie, 93, Of Norwalk

A lifelong Norwalk resident, he opened Norwalk Florist in the early 1960's where he worked for over 30 years.

Albert Paul Gilbertie, 93, lifelong Norwalk resident and beloved husband of Elvira (Maratta) Gilbertie, died on December 28, 2022 at Norwalk Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Norwalk, he was the son of Antonio and Filomena (Vento) Gilbertie, and was also predeceased by his beloved daughter Denise Gilbertie, as well as his brother Anthony, sister Celeste and his twin brother Joseph.

Albert attended Norwalk schools, and worked for the family florist business from a young age. He also served in the Army National Guard. In the early 1960's, Albert opened Norwalk Florist where he worked for over 30 years. After a brief reprieve for the florist business, he found he missed it and opened Westport Florist where he worked along with his wife for another 10 years.

Albert was a hard-working and quiet man, devoted to his family. He was a loving and kind husband and father, especially doting on his late daughter Denise. He enjoyed taking classes at NCC, learning computers, art, drawing and building model airplanes.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Elvira, son Richard Gilbertie and his fiancée Melanie, daughter Dina Phelps and her husband Stephen, five cherished grandchildren: Lena, Madison, Jack, Ryan and Katherine, as well as a sister, Virginia (Ginger) Barber, of Norwalk and Palm City, FL.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 3, at the Magner Funeral Home, 12 Mott Ave, Norwalk, with entombment to follow at St. John Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to S.T.A.R.-Lighting the Way (Starct.org).
