Obituary: Audrey Richards Johnson, 101, Of Norwalk
An active member of the Norwalk United Methodist Church, she served as a board member, Sunday school teacher and church choir director.

Audrey Richards Johnson, (nickname Judy), 101, of Norwalk Connecticut, passed away peacefully at the Norwalk Hospital on February 9, 2024. Audrey was born on January 18, 1923, in Chicago, Ill. the youngest of four children.
She graduated from Steinmetz High School, Chicago, Cosmopolitan School of Music, Chicago, B.M. and Wright College, Chicago, where she studied Liberal Arts. She was employed at Time Incorporated in Chicago Illinois, Kocian and Grach in Norwalk, Ct. and Elliott and Nelson Inc. Advertising Agency in Norwalk Ct. Additionally, she was a member of the Chicago Women’s Symphony for many years.

Audrey was an active member of the Norwalk United Methodist Church raising all 6 of her children there. She was a Board Member, on staff as a Sunday school teacher, and director of the Church Choir for many years. Audrey was a Nurse Aide at the Norwalk Hospital, a performing member of the Veterans Entertainment Troupe, taught violin, piano and viola private lessons, and was a church leader for High School teachers for the district from Nichols Connecticut to Mamaroneck New York. She performed in theatre groups in Wilton and New Canaan.
She is survived by one son, Arthur G. Johnson III. (Mika) of Landing New Jersey, four daughters Susan Slama (Charles) of Norwalk, Shelby Johnson of Kansas, Sally Silverstein (Timothy) of Norwalk, Megan Johnson of Westport, four grandchildren Shawn Johnson of Maryland, Christa Babcock of New York, Lindsay Navarro of Illinois, Michael Silverstein of Norwalk, and three great grandchildren Jonathan and Nicole Navarro and Anne Babcock. Audrey was pre deceased by her husband of 53 years, Arthur Gideon Johnson and her son Jeremy Hamilton Johnson.

There are no calling hours and burial services will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that you please consider a donation in Audreys memory to Waveny Care Center in New Canaan.
