Obituary: Henry A. Simon, 99, Of Norwalk

Henry A. Simon, 99, husband of Margaret M. Simon of Norwalk passed away on Tuesday, April 4, 2023.

The son of the late Henry E and Mary Marguerite Simon he lived in Norwalk all his life. In addition to his wife of 75 years, he is survived by his children Rosanne Waldmiller and Mark Simon, grandson Matthew Waldmiller and his wife Jennifer and great granddaughter Adeline. He was predeceased by his sister Katherine Studwell.

Henry was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. His greatest pleasure was spending time with his family and sharing in their lives, activities and accomplishments. He enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, Europe, Mexico and the Caribbean. A long time member of St. Thomas the Apostle Church, he volunteered his time in many ministries and was a recipient of the St. Augustine Medal of Service.

A proud Navy veteran of World War II he served in the South Pacific. A lifelong member of The American Legion he has several artifacts on display in the Veterans Wall of Honor in Norwalk City Hall. He was presented The Secretary of State’s WWII Veteran Public Service Award, was keynote speaker at the Shea Magrath Memorial Ceremony and served as Grand Marshall of Norwalk’s Memorial Day Parade.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday April 11, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Collins Funeral Home, 92 East Avenue, Norwalk. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday April 12 at 11 a.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 203 East Avenue, Norwalk. Entombment with military honors will follow at St. John Cemetery, 223 Richards Avenue, Norwalk.
