Obituary: Joseph Otis Bernier, 96, Of Norwalk

A longtime resident of Norwalk, he owned a successful upholstery business: J.O.B's Upholstery at the Norwalk Marina.

Joseph Otis Bernier, 96, passed away peacefully on March 11th, in Norwalk hospital, surrounded by loved ones. He is reunited with his beloved wife, Norma Lorraine Gates, of 69 years, who predeceased him in 2019.

Joe was born on April 14, 1927 in Leominister, MA, to the late Alfred and Marie (LeBlanc) Bernier. Joseph was Private First Class of the 404th Bomb Squadron in the US Air Force during WWII from November 1945 until September 1948 when he was honorably discharged.

As a long time resident of Norwalk, CT he owned a successful upholstery business, J.O.B’s Upholstery at the Norwalk Marina. Joe was a member of the Eagles Club where he and his wife and friends would gather and go dancing. He was known as a kind, funny and a good hearted man, he will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Joe is survived by his son, Wayne Bernier of Westport, three grand daughters; Kimberly Charles of Florence, S.C, Jessica Jacob of Wilton, CT, and Stephanie Bernier of Ormand, F.L, six great grand children; Walter, Samantha, Ashley, Savannah, Noah and Kayden. He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.

Joe is predeceased by his wife Norma Lorraine (Gates), 92, daughter Diane Meehan, 70, and siblings; Ferdinand, Helen, Roger, Valmont, Vincent and Jerald.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, March 17th, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., with military honors at 4 p.m., Collins Funeral Home in Norwalk, CT.
