Obituary: Yvonne N. Smith, 96, Of Norwalk

Yvonne N. Smith, beloved wife of the late Irving Thomas Smith for 71 years, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on February 6, 2024, at the age of 96. She was born on November 3, 1927 to the late Richard A. Niess and Yvonne (Meroni) Niess in Jackson Heights, NY.

She grew up in East Rockaway, NY and later moved to Norwalk, CT to raise her family. She was a dancer in her earlier years before graduating from The College of Notre Dame of Maryland. She went on to teach kindergarten at F.E. Bellows Elementary School in Mamaroneck, NY for 30 years.

After retirement she spent her winters in Naples, FL where she enjoyed gardening, the arts and friends. She loved traveling and spending time with her family. Her unlimited charming presence, social warmth and engaging conversations will be greatly missed.

Yvonne is survived by her two daughters; Michelle Meth of Longmeadow, MA and Suzanne Guerin of Stamford, CT. She also leaves behind four grandchildren; Danielle, Jacqueline, Jacque and Madeleine as well as two great grandchildren; Jonah and Charlie. In addition to her husband, she was pre deceased by her brother

"We invite Yvonne's friends and family to join us at Suzanne's home from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. to celebrate Yvonne's life. Beverages and h'ors d'oeuvres will be served. She always loved a good party!"

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday February 9, 2024 10 a.m. at St. Matthews Church 216 Scribner Ave. Norwalk followed by burial at Woodlawn Cemetery in the Bronx, NY.
