The man is accused of knocking a coach unconscious with a helmet during a youth football game, according to police.

NORWALK, CT — A Norwalk man has been arrested in connection with the assault of a youth football coach during a game over the weekend, according to police.

Police responded to the football field at Brien McMahon High School around 1 p.m. on Sunday on the report of a man being assaulted during a football game. Officers found the man unconscious on the field, along with a “large crowd of adult and child game spectators,” according to police.

Investigators were unable to find Polk and a warrant was issued for his arrest, according to police.

Police said Polk was provided with opportunities to turn himself in, but “refused to comply.”

Polk was found by police around 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, despite “his efforts to conceal himself,” police said. He was taken to police headquarters without further incident, according to police.

The victim has been released from the hospital and is recovering from his injuries, police said.

Polk, 32, was arrested on charges of second-degree assault, risk of injury to a minor, and second-degree breach of peace. He was held in lieu of a $75,000 bond with a court date of Oct. 14.

The Hour reported Monday that the incident happened during an eighth-grade game and Norwalk Junior Football and Cheer League Commissioner Jeff Fatone sent a message to families saying the league was “shocked and disappointed” by the “unacceptable actions” that happened on the field.
