Pedestrian Severely Injured In Norwalk Hit-And-Run; Driver Charged: Police

Police found the driver and his Chevrolet Tahoe at his Norwalk home, where he was arrested, according to authorities.

NORWALK, CT — A Norwalk man is charged in a hit-and-run that left a pedestrian seriously injured, according to police.

Christopher Umpierre, 39, is charged with evading responsibility and insufficient insurance, police said.

Authorities responded shortly before 2 a.m. Saturday to the scene of a crash at North Main and Washington streets, police said. Officers found an injured pedestrian on the road, who told police she intentionally stepped in front of a vehicle and who was taken to Norwalk Hospital, according to authorities.

Police learned a red Chevrolet Tahoe had hit the pedestrian and fled the scene, and developed Umpierre as a suspect, speaking to witnesses, reviewing surveillance and recovering evidence, authorities said. Investigators found Umpierre and the Tahoe at his County Street home Saturday morning, where he was arrested, according to police.

His bond was set at $10,000 and he is due in court April 10, police said.
