Untimely Death Under Investigation After Body Is Found In Vehicle In Norwalk River: UPDATE
An untimely death is under investigation after a body was found in a vehicle submerged in the Norwalk River, according to police.

NORWALK, CT — An untimely death is under investigation in Norwalk after a body was found in a vehicle submerged in the Norwalk River on Thursday, according to police.
In a news release, Police Lt. Tomasz Podgorski said the department received multiple reports of a vehicle submerged in the river in the area of Moodys Lane around 12:30 p.m.
The department's patrol division and marine unit, Norwalk Hospital Emergency Medical Service crews and Norwalk firefighters responded to the area and found a vehicle submerged in the water.

Stamford Fire Department rescue divers helped recover a person from the vehicle who was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Podgorski.
The vehicle was processed by the department's Crime Scene Unit. Preliminary investigation revealed the person intentionally drove into the river and was the sole occupant of the vehicle, according to Podgorski.

Deputy Fire Chief Steve Shay said firefighters spotted the car floating in the river when it was 90 percent submerged. Crews worked with police to secure the area.
Firefighters then entered the water and attached a line with a buoy marker to the car moments before it sank, Shay said.
Norwalk and Stamford fire dive teams entered the water and removed the person from the vehicle. The car was later removed from the river, Shay said.

Police initially said on Facebook around 1 p.m. the vehicle was found in the area between Wall Street and Moodys Lane and residents were asked to avoid the area.
